Hi, i would like to try to give the described case of corruption a positive spin. I am writing this from Finland which is globally recognised as the least corrupt country in the world and without knowing any specifics about the case at hands.
So we all know, that there can always be corruption, even in our so called anti-corrupt Finland the chief of the Helsinki Police held a key position in a drug cartel, interesting employment is granted by 80% through friendly connections, even in publicly funded positions and recently a complete municipal leadership had to be exchanged because of corruption.
It is in the nature of corruption that it thrives in hiding, where there is no transparency. Even if leadership detects corruption, or any abuse, there is a tendency to hide it away and to cover it up, because of the fear to damage the reputation of the organisation or the institution. Often the image is more important than clearing up the corruption or abuse. As a result, an isolated case and misbehaviour by a small group or an individual will soon poison the whole organisation. Everyone has something to hide and corruption can start to truly grow.
So for an organisation, institution or country to openly publish cases of corruption, to clear it up publicly and transparently dealing with it can actually be a good sign. It could mean that they are serious about it. How to know if this is true in the case at hands? A good sign is if and when they publicly admit more than what has already been proven and is already known.
I wrote this not to defend anyone in a case where i don't know any details, but just to caution in general, to encourage organisations to openly deal with corruption and not to punish them for trying to do the right thing. Because that would only lead to keeping things hidden again in the future.
So wonderful that our paths crossed ✨ you are an amazing person and truly inspiring. You deserve the best!
The orange wall looks so cool, perfect for 🌞 summer! Curious to see what other colors are used 😁
